Students at Briarwood have average to above average cognitive abilities and have not yet reached their academic potential in traditional school environments. Briarwood students typically have a primary diagnosis of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia.
We empower students with learning differences to reach their full potential through diagnostic and prescriptive instruction in a structured, supportive environment. Rooted in brain science and evidence-based practices, our curriculum is designed around each learner’s unique needs and offers multiple ways for students to grow and succeed.
The admissions team understands this is a special journey and would like to provide compassionate support with informed referrals and recommendations in the event your child is not a good fit for our school.
Briarwood is not equipped to effectively serve students with certain primary diagnoses. These include Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, and Emotional Disturbance.

Our son has been at Briarwood for 8 years. Briarwood has provided continued support, a welcoming environment, and commitment to helping Cole thrive in lower, middle and upper school. We are grateful for the dedication of the teachers and staff who have gone above and beyond to assure that Cole experienced success academically, socially and emotionally. We are so grateful for The Briarwood School! Our daughter Kate has undergone an amazing transformation there. Before starting Briarwood in 9th grade she disliked school, was struggling academically despite having tutoring 3 days per week, and had set the bar for herself extremely low. Now she loves school, is happy and excelling, has great friendships, and excited for college and her chosen career.
My child entered the school will zero confidence in herself, hated school, anxiety trough the roof, and barely making it through the school day. Now, my daughter leaps out of bed to go to school, is confident reading aloud, can do her homework by herself, feels comfortable asking for help at school, jumps in the car after school excited to share what she learned that day, and has made friends.
Over the past two years, our hopes for our child have been realized. Smaller class sizes at Briarwood provide crucial individualized attention for his core subjects. During the intermediate years, our child had a mentor who nurtured his curiosity in social studies and science, and he placed in the science fair! We witness the time and effort the Briarwood faculty gives to empower students to reach their maximum potential.
