JOB SUMMARY: The Secondary Language Teacher uses research and evidence-based methodology infused with joyful learning to support students’ reading and literacy development, use of technology, and positive self-identity. The ideal candidate provides targeted language instruction that reflects the principles and practices of Structured Literacy. The ideal candidate strives to work as a collaborative team member to instruct and support students in Middle School (6th-8th grades) with mild to moderate learning disabilities by utilizing curriculum materials adopted by the school and appropriate supplemental and teacher-made materials. This position will play a critical role in partnering with the Middle School Director and Department Chair.

Striving to work as a collaborative team member to instruct and support students in all grades with moderate to severe learning disabilities by utilizing curriculum materials adopted by the school, as well as appropriate supplemental and teacher-made materials. This position will play a critical role in partnering with the Head of School and Division Directors.

Department Chairs play a vital role in the successful development and implementation of The Briarwood School’s programs and curricula for their respective departments. The Department chair serves as a liaison between faculty and administration and is pivotal in creating and sustaining the positive school culture necessary to foster student learning. As a teacher-leader, Department chairs create an environment in which their teams feel supported, collaboration is fostered, and teachers feel empowered. They work with administration to ensure that the procedures and policies of The Briarwood School are consistently executed to provide a cohesive community for all stakeholders. Department chairs also serve as in-house experts, modeling best practices and providing guidance to other teachers.
Qualification Requirements:
The Upper School Language Teacher demonstrates flexibility, perseverance, resourcefulness, critical thinking and creativity, collaboration, self-awareness, the ability to listen well and seek understanding, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s degree preferred. Relevant teaching certification preferred (Texas or other State Certification in English)

The Briarwood school is seeking highly qualified applicants for teaching positions, grades K-12, to join our team of highly trained teachers. The Briarwood School is a K-12 independent school specializing in educating children with diagnosed learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia). We believe that Every child CAN learn and deserves to be taught in the way he or she learns best.
Teachers report to their Division Director and facilitate the growth of students through direct, multi-sensory instruction utilizing evidenced-based curriculum.
