As anyone who has participated in the development of a production knows, there is much more to putting on a production than meets the eye. Any single theater arts event implements a host of skills: memorization, mathematics, tactile and mechanical know-how, and communication. Of course, skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and risk-taking are crucial in making a play successful and help to build qualities needed throughout life.
For many students, an artistic outlet is a great way to highlight their talent and build confidence. For this reason, the Company Class, an elective for students in Upper School, gives students the opportunity to learn and implement skills associated with theater arts productions. Middle and Upper School Drama classes also allow students to explore and improve their acting abilities.
Briarwood awards letter jackets to Upper School students for performance in athletics or theater. Jackets are awarded in November and May. Details on eligibility and procedures are in your handbook.
Letter jackets for theater participation are awarded on a points system. The Theater Director awards points based on a student's level of involvement. Students must earn 22 points to be eligible for a jacket.
