Carole Wills | Head of School

Carole Wills received her BBA from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in 1966 where she was certified in Secondary Education. Now in her twenty-third year at Briarwood, Carole has been an English and Language Skills teacher and continues to teach Foundations, a Briarwood-designed course that is required of all Middle-Upper School juniors. Wills has also served as Middle-Upper Guidance Advisor, Member of the school's original Drug Task Force, Head of Middle-Upper School, Interim Head of Lower School, Interim Head of Tuttle School, Associate Principal, and is in her 11th year as Head of School.

During her role as Associate Principal (1992-1998), Carole implemented the Community Education Series Program and continues to seek experts in the field of learning disabilities and developmental delays to train the Briarwood faculty. She also implemented the Parent Panel and the Panel of Briarwood Graduates.

From 1996 through 2000 and again during 2002, Carole was President of the Houston Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. While in that position, Carole was Secretary of Branch Council, the Council of all IDA Presidents. In 2002, Carole became President of the Houston Association of Independent Schools, and continues to serve in that role. Carole currently serves on the Board of the Houston Branch IDA and on the Speakers Committee of the IDA.

Wills' knowledge in the field of learning disabilities has prompted presentations at the Learning Disabilities Association of Texas Conference, the Council for Exceptional Children Conference, the Neuhaus Education Center, the Teen Conference at the 1995 International Dyslexia Association Conference in Houston, and at Branch Council Leadership Sessions at IDA conferences.

Wills is a native Texan from Silsbee, Texas; she and her husband Jim, parents of James Wills and Julie Wills Preston, have claimed Houston their home since 1968.
